From Board to Bench: How to Build Your Leadership Succession System

Scroll to next section

Leadership succession goes beyond replacing the CEO. It protects your ESOP, preserves what makes your company special, and prepares people for leadership at every level.

In this interactive session, you’ll discover practical ways to develop a leadership succession system by integrating it into everyday work, rather than waiting until crucial departures. Explore how your board, senior leaders, managers, and employee-owners can work together to identify important roles, spot, and develop talent, and prepare your company to thrive for generations to come.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Board members, senior leaders, and managers and supervisors.

HOW THIS SESSION WILL BE INTERACTIVE
This hands-on session puts the experience and expertise in the room to work. You'll assess your company's succession readiness, sketch a succession “heat map” to identify critical roles and leadership risks, and exchange ideas through short, focused conversations with peers and experienced succession consultants. You'll leave with a readiness assessment, a draft heat map, and practical next steps to develop future leaders, preserve critical knowledge, and sustain your company's ownership culture.

Learning Objectives

  1. Assess how well your current leadership succession efforts support a sustainable, ongoing process that involves the whole organization.
  2. Identify the responsibilities and resources needed for effective leadership succession at the board, executive, and management levels.
  3. Define the outputs of an effective succession system, including a list of critical roles, assessments of successor readiness, and talent development plans.
